Our Story

We build furniture in North Wales.
The mountains are just outside.

Spruced started with a coffee table, a pile of tools, and the view from a workshop window in the foothills of the Clwydian Hills. It hasn't got much more complicated than that.

Mountain Inspiration

I grew up on the mountain bike trails of North Wales. Spent summers hiking in the Lakes. Ended up working in Alpine villages for a few years, surrounded by snow and the kind of craft traditions that make you think differently about what furniture should feel like.

When Spruced started, it wasn't a direct plan and has taken years to grown from a seed of an idea to the start of a business project. It was an instinct — that the pieces I wanted to make looked and felt a certain way, and that feeling came directly from the mountains.

Our base is in the foothills of the Clwydian Range, which is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. We mention because the landscape shapes how we think about what we make. Solid, Earthy, Aesthetic. Things that earn their place.

The aesthetic reference is alpine, outdoor, adventure, mountains. We try to take those feelings into the pieces we produce. We use good wood. Keep the lines clean. Let the material do most of the talking. Then add a modern edge where it earns its place.

"Inspired by the mountains. Made in the foothills."

Every piece starts as a solid wood blank from a quality UK maker. We don't manufacture from raw lumber. We source pieces with good bones and real character, then modify them in the workshop — new legs, surface treatments, slate inlay, resin work, 3D printed hardware. The base piece brings the soul. We bring the detail that makes it a Spruced piece.

What makes it Spruced?

The solid wood is the foundation. Real grain, real weight, real character — knots, colour variation, the slight irregularity that tells you it came from a tree rather than a factory. We don't hide that. We build around it.

We then, at times, like to add a modern edge. Blackened steel legs. resin, slate, and amber inlays,  3D printed hardware with geometric forms that no standard retailer stocks. Wire brushed surfaces that open the grain and give the wood a texture you want to run your hand across.

Every piece gets the Spruced workshop mark — a hot brand burned into the wood before it leaves. It's how we sign our work and gives you something you want to use, admire and cherish.

The Foothills Range

Our first range. Named for where the workshop sits — not quite the mountains, not the valley floor. The pieces are warm and approachable but there's a harder edge to them. Dark finishes, blackened steel, the occasional flash of teal resin in a natural crack.

Everything in The Foothills Range is built to order. You choose the size, the leg style and the finish. Lead times are honest — three to four weeks for most pieces, a little longer for dining tables. We'll keep you updated throughout.

What we're not

We're not a furniture manufacturer in the traditional sense. We don't run a production line. We're not a vintage dealer or an up-cycler. We're not a showroom brand with a catalogue and a press office.

We're a small workshop that sources well, builds carefully and sells directly. If something isn't right when it arrives — and it rarely is, but occasionally things happen in transit — we fix it. No run-around.

If you want something that doesn't exist in the range, get in touch. We're always up for discussing it!
